Who We Are

We are a private obstetric and gynaecological practice, comprising myself, a specialist obstetrician and gynaecologist of 24 years experience, Annie and Helen, two experienced senior midwives, and Joanne, the practice manager and receptionist.

Established in 2009, we are a successful and thriving practice offering professional yet friendly care for pregnancy and women with gynaecological problems. The practice runs from word of mouth, with many patients returning, and referring their friends and relatives.

Our rooms, in Killowen House, overlooking the Swan River, provide a pleasant and relaxing outlook for your consultation.

Charles Armstrong
Obstetrician and Gynaecologist

I am a fully accredited specialist, and Head of Department at SJOG Mount Lawley Hospital, and delivering at both SJOG Mount Lawley and Subiaco Hospitals.

I qualified from the University of Leicester Medical School, England, in 1992.  I have been working in obstetrics and gynaecology for 24 years since, in England, Scotland, New Zealand and Australia.

I was appointed as a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in 2005, at King Edward Memorial Hospital, WA's tertiary referral centre for womens' health.  I have continued to work at KEMH on a sessional basis since setting up my private practice in 2009.

I have been in private practice for nine years, providing a comprehensive obstetric and gynaecological service. The financial situation throughout Perth and Western Australia has deteriorated over the past few years, which I have reflected in my fees.  I am a no-gap provider for all in-hospital services, and my fees have not been increased since 2010.  I remain one of the more affordable Obstetrician/Gynaecologists’ in Perth.

My affiliation with KEMH allows me to continue to care for those with higher-risk pregnancies, which otherwise may not be possible.

I have gained a vast wealth of experience from my diverse and varied training and work, which I am able to bring to my contemporary practice.

I pride myself as offering both a personal, relaxed approach, with a professional service, ensuring that every patient feels the centre of her care, resulting in good outcomes and happy mums.

On a more personal level, I am married, to Susie, a midwife, and have four children.  Most of my time when not at work is spent with the kids, usually watching one of their numerous sporting activities, and trying to combine my love of photography.

Annie and Helen
Senior Midwives

Annie undertook her nursing and midwifery training in Perth, and has many years of experience at KEMH.

She now works part-time at KEMH, in order to devote the rest of her time to our practice.

Annie has recently returned from Syria, following her second six month tour with Medicine Sans Frontier, her first being in Pakistan.  These were both incredible experiences for her, providing her a new perspective to life, and its priorities.

She has a huge amount of experience, and has an easy manner which encourages discussion of issues that might otherwise be more difficult.

Helen is also Perth trained, and spent a number of years working in a birthing centre in London.  Since her return she has been working at SJOGMLH.  We are fortunate enough to have Helen cover for Annie when she is away.

Joanne Bryant
Practice Manager

Joanne has been been with me almost from the start.  She ensures the smooth running of the practice, and cannot imagine anyone doing a better job.

She worked for many years as the receptionist on the Family Birth Centre at SJOGMLH, so knows the hospital as well as anyone.

She runs the practice with a cool efficiency, allowing me to get on with what I do without having to worry about the rest.

She is married and has 2 children, who would describe themselves as grown up!
